Our cabin felt new and had everything we needed, from towels and kitchen gear to small appliances. The beds were very comfortable, and the sheets were clean and fresh. The grounds were spotless and well cared for, parking was onsite, and each cabin had its own clean hot tub. We didn't use the outdoor lounge and BBQ area, but it looked lovely and had two high quality grills. The resort sits between the Tlell River and the ocean, a beautiful spot for watching storms, especially in the off season. It's outside cell service, but the Wi-Fi worked very well, and it's an easy trip of about 30 minutes from Skidegate. We were four adults and a toddler, and had first booked a regular hotel room. Management generously upgraded us. Check-in was quick, everything was ready when we arrived, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our four night stay at Haida House at Tlaal in October. The place was peaceful and scenic, and the off season made the natural beauty feel even more special. We'd recommend visiting in either the regular season or the quieter months. One evening a nearby tree fell and the power went out briefly. Staff checked on us right away and offered us space in the main building if we needed it. The propane heat meant we could still shower, and power came back in a few hours.

I was really looking forward to staying here and would have happily come on different dates, but this is the end result. I asked for a refund two hours after booking, more than 40 days before arrival. I sent five emails, made three phone calls, and left multiple messages, but got no response. Their cancellation policy is worthless if they won't answer you, and Cloudbeds offered no way to cancel or manage the reservation. Other reviews describe people losing money after similar customer service problems. Don't book unless you're absolutely sure you'll stay. I hope Consumer Protection BC puts a stop to this after I file an official complaint about my deposit of over $2,000.

The restaurant exceeded my expectations. Our Haida Tourism tour included all you can eat dining, so we got to try everything during our four day stay. It was all exceptional, and we talked about the brussels sprouts for days. The one inconsistency was the cocktails: the same one tasted quite different on two nights in a row. The staff were lovely, and I highly recommend it. I stayed at Haida House with my husband and in-laws. Our cabin's common room was beautiful, with a high ceiling and a wall of windows overlooking the ocean, and I used the deck hot tub every night. My only complaint was the lack of space for clothes. The bedroom was tiny. We moved the bed away from the wall so we could both get in and out, but then there was barely room to squeeze past. There was a small closet with four hangers and no wall hooks.

The sound of the waves and birds made for such a peaceful getaway. I treated myself to a night in one of the cabins, and it was one of the most relaxing, restorative stays I've had in a long time. The meal was the standout. Everything was beautifully presented and cooked just right, and it seemed clear that it was all made from scratch with care. The ingredients and preparation were outstanding. 10/10. If you're after a quiet retreat and great food, I'd highly recommend it.

We lost $600, and I really regret booking here. Air Canada's strike kept us from getting there, and for eight days I tried to reach Haida House at Tlaall by phone and email. They didn't reply until 36 hours before we were due to arrive, then told us to talk to our insurance company. There was no offer to rebook or give credit, and no empathy. This was no customer service at all. Beware if you need to contact them. They won't answer calls or emails. Go elsewhere or take your chances. Shame on Haida House. What kind of Haida Gwaii hospitality is that?
