I've been here for 3 years. The rooms are great and the view over the arboretum and school is nice, but the day-to-day problems are hard to overlook. Hot water is missing for an average of 1-2 full days each week, the power often goes out, sometimes for 12 hours, the food isn't good, and loud construction carries on almost every week. For the price, I wouldn't recommend staying here. If you have no other nearby options, good luck.

The rooms are badly maintained. When I moved in, there was a dead bug by my window, and several friends also found dead animals in their rooms. One person even had a dead rat in a vent with mold growing in it. Room service hasn't been able to fix things: my broken mattress was just flipped over, and when the heat was turned off in spring while temperatures kept changing, my window wouldn't close all the way and I froze for over a week. The cafeteria is awful too. It sometimes shuts nearly 40 minutes before its stated closing time. Today I went at 1:23 AM during a special event advertised everywhere as open until 2am, but they still weren't keeping their hours. Some staff are untrained or rude, and they randomly overcharge you. Some food is ridiculously expensive. A bowl of FRUITS and a drink once cost me 28 dollars.

I stayed at Humber res for a whole year as a Humber student. It was decent in the fall and winter semesters, but summer should be a last resort since everything is under renovation. In general, every service I got from Humber res was bare minimum.

I'm an international student, and after my bad experience in a dorm, I'd recommend sharing a room instead. There's no cooking stove in the residence, so you have to eat in the canteen or heat food in a microwave. Everyone has to leave over Christmas break. Even if students are allowed to extend their stay, it's only for a few days and costs extra. Dorm life is so boring it makes you want to move out. If you're new and your friends don't have room for you, I'd rather go back home for a short time.

Living here will drain your wallet for what feels like a prison cell. My bed was incredibly thin, half the lights didn't work and nobody fixed them. The advertised “Air Conditioning and Heating” was broken too, including the fan, so I struggled to cool down for most of my stay. A couple of front desk staff were really nice, but some power-tripped and acted like they owned the place. The same group of guys got me in trouble twice for scanning my ID to enter without showing them the card in person. That makes no sense. You're also stuck paying $2,650 for a NON-REFUNDABLE MINIMUM MANDATORY MEAL PLAN. The food is horrid for that price, regardless of it making things “tax free” for students. You can't bring your own mini fridge either, you have to “Rent” one from Coldex. Even with rich parents, I'd STILL AVOID living here. The residence, and Humber itself, felt designed to take as much money as possible from vulnerable students without getting in trouble. It felt very scammy to me. Your experience may vary, but be cautious and weigh your other options.
