New Plaza Motel

The room was fully equipped and even had an extra sofa bed. A nice man was at the front desk. The carpets are due for replacement, though, and the drywall needs proper professional repairs.

The room and bathroom were clean. I’m extremely paranoid, so I checked the mattress and box spring with a black light. Both were clean and had covers on them, which reassured me that I was sleeping on a clean bed. On the first morning, my father-in-law woke up with his clothes soaked from water leaking out of the window AC unit. He told the front desk. I assume someone fixed it while we were out for the day, since it didn’t happen the second night. But when we asked for another pillow for him, we were rudely told we already had enough, three. He’s an amputee and needs to prop up his leg at night, and the pillows were wafer thin. The Wi-Fi was so poor we couldn’t even browse the internet successfully. The motel is within walking distance of several restaurants, though I’m not sure I’d want to walk around that area too late. We got what we paid for. It wasn’t luxurious, but it was clean and did the job.

The room had everything in order, including a towel, TV, fridge, and microwave, and the price for my one night was great. I was visiting from Montreal. The desk guy was friendly and honest, and from what I saw outside and in my room, the new management has renovated the whole motel. I’m giving it 5 stars because they deserve it. The front desk guy said the previous residents had caused vandalism and misconduct, so the new management recorded their names and ID numbers. He said they wouldn’t rent them a room if they came back. Free Wi-Fi is available too, you just have to ask the front desk for access. I’d definitely stay here again. There were negative reviews from the time of the previous mismanagement, but those problems have been solved. Go see for yourself! Mohamed Youssef Ronny, Montreal

I’m spending time at this motel because it’s being used as a set for a new series. For an “affordable motel,” it’s not too bad. The washrooms look like they’ve recently been updated, with neutral beige and cream tiles and a mosaic inlay. The living area has a monitor-style TV, a modern plank wall, and a mosaic brick detail in beige tones. The bed linens, though, bring back the thought, “I hope they don’t have a black light.” Their patterns feel straight out of 1973.
