We ended up here unexpectedly after missing a connecting flight. Since our next flight was late at night, we called at 1 a.m. to book and specifically asked for a late checkout around 8 p.m. We were told that would be fine. At the desk, though, checkout was listed as 11 a.m., with no late checkout noted. Staying longer would cost $20 an hour, and they couldn't guarantee we could keep the room or stay at all. The receptionist wasn’t accommodating. We were exhausted, stressed, and without our luggage, so this was incredibly frustrating. They gave us an upper-floor upgrade, but what we needed was rest and flexibility. The modern-looking room was very small, and two people felt cramped. There probably wouldn’t have been room for luggage. One bedside outlet didn’t work, the TV was scratched, and the shower drain was right where you stand, which was uncomfortable. Breakfast was included, but it was crowded, with long lines and limited seating. Some items were good; others tasted artificial. The location was good, and toiletries were provided. The hotel has a modern look, but the communication and late checkout policy were poor, and the $20-per-hour fee felt expensive. For a quick overnight stay it may be fine, but we wouldn’t stay again.

I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and modern this hotel felt compared with other downtown places in the same price range that seem dated. I stayed Friday night for an event downtown. Check-in was quick, and the staff were polite and welcoming. Breakfast was a treat, with a generous spread and really good quality. There’s no parking on-site, but there are several paid lots next door, and the prices are fair for the area. I can’t wait to visit again.

The breakfast buffet was a highlight, with plenty of fruit, deli meats, cheese, and hot options. The quality was close to what you’d get at an average breakfast restaurant, and it’s the best included hotel breakfast I’ve had in Canada. Our room had a great city view, and we got the Chromecast-enabled TV working with our phones. I stayed one night in November 2025 in a deluxe superior king room. The brand-new hotel has a very modern design in both the rooms and common areas, with premium-feeling finishes, and everything was clean and well maintained. Check-in took around 20 minutes at about 4 p.m., which was disappointing. The sliding bathroom door was loud enough to risk waking my partner at night, and there were no bedside light switches. The automated blinds also seemed like an oversight at this hotel’s class and price point. At about $250 a night, it seemed like good value when I booked, though rates appear to have gone up since. If booking again, I’d choose Canopy Toronto, which has a similar modern feel, better room design and tech, and a lower price.

My girlfriend and I are staying at the RIU in Toronto, and it’s been a stressful, unpleasant stay. The rooms themselves are nice, but we’ve had repeated trouble with the heat. Our first room was 24.5 Celsius and wouldn’t cool down. Maintenance couldn’t fix it, so we moved. In the next room, even with the windows open all day, it wouldn’t get below 22. We told the front desk, and they said it would be handled before we got back. Late that night, the air was completely off, the windows were closed, and the room was 23. We were tired of complaining, so we stayed. The following night they asked whether we’d try a lower floor. We went to look before deciding, then agreed to switch and packed our things by the door. The new room was cooler, which made us happy. Around 10:30 p.m. on March 7, the bellman went to retrieve our belongings while we spent the night in the room. The next day, as we were getting ready to leave, we realized a jacket had been left behind. It had a wallet with money, event tickets, and personal identification inside. The front desk said nothing had been logged and there was no jacket in the room. They said they’d check the cameras and get back to us. I can’t wait to leave.

The buffet breakfast really stands out, and the rooms are well appointed with a good range of facilities. A great choice for staying in Toronto’s entertainment district. Special thanks to Jazmin at the front desk, a truly outstanding Ambassador for the Riu who made our arrival perfect. I’ll definitely return.
