We left and got a refund, but then I was charged a cleaning fee and my bank only gave me a $50 credit. I had put my reactive chihuahua in the bathroom when the housekeeper came to remove the wine bottle, but the room needed a proper cleaning either way. Floors hadn’t been vacuumed, and there were still toast crumbs on the nightstand. This was the long Labour Day weekend, and it felt like housekeeping had cut corners. I travelled there in August for a work trip with my sister, and the room was visibly dirty at check-in: coffee and tea grounds on the table, crumbs on the floor, hair in the sink, and a half-empty red wine bottle lying on the floor with its lid against the bed frame. The front desk sent a housekeeper to take the bottle, but insisted the room was clean and said she’d call the owner. I was told, “He doesn’t pay two housekeepers to do nothing,” and that maybe the bottle fell off the cart, though where it was made that seem impossible. After she left, we waited, and I kept finding more dirt and crumbs. When I called again, the front desk woman said, “come get your refund I’m not dealing with this.” We packed up and left. The place was gross, and I was charged despite the room plainly needing to be cleaned. I don’t recommend it. I’ll stay somewhere else on my next work trip. I’m really disappointed by the service and the way the front desk woman acted.

At breakfast, the experience depended on which staff member was working. One woman kept the food stocked, cleared tables, and welcomed guests; on the day she wasn’t there, items ran out and guests got little attention. The selection was sparse: toast, tea biscuits, coffee, cereal, and juice, with yogurt appearing only once and just jam or marmalade for spreads. No peanut butter or other choices. We stayed over Labour Day weekend, but the dining room was closed for the season without telling us ahead of time. Our suite also felt neglected. It was dark and damp, with damaged furniture, a dirty sitting chair, and a stained bedspread. Housekeeping emptied the bins and brought clean towels each day, though they didn’t make the bed. On the one day they did, part of the TV remote was left on the comforter. The in-room coffee supplies weren’t replenished either. Checking out felt like a transaction. We were told we could leave and had to ask for a receipt. No one asked how the stay had been or thanked us for choosing the property. The whole visit left me thinking guest experience is no longer a priority. I can imagine it was once a lovely hotel, but it now seems poorly maintained and isn’t good value for the price.

The front desk team made a good impression, especially the woman who checked us in. She was friendly, helpful, and easy to deal with. We were there after a wedding this past weekend, and the room was clean and cozy for an overnight stop. The beds were comfortable and we slept really well. As frequent travellers, we found the room a little below what we’re used to and not extravagant, but it had what we needed. There wasn’t a hair dryer in our room, though perhaps some of the others have one. One thing to check before coming: call or confirm the dining hours. We knew breakfast might not be available on weekends, so it wasn’t a surprise to us. It was a convenient place to stay, and we’d consider coming back for another quick stopover.

The fish and chips at the restaurant next door were the highlight, honestly the best I’ve ever had. We also slept great last night: no noise, a clean room, and a comfortable bed.

The hotel is lovely, and I’ll come back to stay, but I’d skip the restaurant. We arrived for breakfast at 9:20, with service ending at 10, and sat for at least 20 minutes before anyone served us. Then the food took an hour, and my pancakes were burnt underneath. People who came in after us had their meals first. By the time ours arrived, everyone else had left and there was only one other table. The staff were very friendly and nice. I understand some of them were on their first day, and everyone makes mistakes, but after waiting that long, getting burnt food was off-putting.
