Whale's Tail Guest Suites

Everything we used was clean and easy to access, and the downtown location was affordable. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and a kitchen stocked with the basics. Bring your own spices and a cutting knife. The BBQ right outside our door was great, and we spotted deer nearby. I think Aleah greeted us, and a younger woman was cleaning when we arrived. Both gave us helpful lunch suggestions. Rooms are ready at 4pm. The pool and sauna are at their sister location, The West Coast Motel, one street over, and both were clean and great. The laundry facilities were a blessing.

At nearly $300 a night, this felt like a ripoff. The kitchenette was so poorly stocked that we couldn’t follow through with our plans to cook and had to pay to eat out. There were only a few dishes, no knives or cutting board, one baking dish, one small pot, and no dish soap, despite the big signs saying dirty dishes would incur a charge. The motel is badly run down. The carpets were stained, the room felt damp and musty, and the bedspread looked like it might be from the 1970s. The siding had rotten holes all over it. Check-in is in another building on a different street, and so is the pool, which we didn’t bother using. I expected it to be in similarly poor repair. If you rent a kitchenette, bring everything you might need.

I’ve stayed here for five years, and it works really well when I come to Ucluelet to fish with a group. The Whale’s Tail has roomy suites with a full kitchen and dining room, plus multiple bedrooms, at a good price. There’s also a community kitchen that’s great for a cookout. Restaurants are within walking distance, and it’s very quiet at night. The staff are amazing too. My only gripes are that the windows don’t have screens and the place is a bit dated. Otherwise, it’s a great group stay.

The suite is older, but it has everything I want for a vacation. Most of all, the bed was very comfortable, and there’s a full kitchen. I’ll definitely come back.
