Grouse Inn

The room was large and quiet during my stay in Late January, and the free breakfast was good. Hot water for showers was always available, and the facilities were useful. The location was perfect for getting to almost every attraction. A couple of the reception staff could have been a bit nicer, though. Smiling isn't that hard!

For the price, I expected a motel, and that's what this felt like, except it cost $100 for what seemed like a $60 Fleabag motel. One reason I chose it was the advertised cribs for our 5 month old daughter, but when we arrived there was just one and someone else had already claimed it. The beds were far too soft for me, like old sagging sofas. I have back trouble and usually find hotel beds good for my back because they're firm. Our first room had a broken TV. After they moved us, my husband was left waiting outside the office with our luggage for 20 minutes. Both bathrooms were small and dingy, and the heat had only two settings, suffocatingly hot or off. I expected a nice, relaxing getaway, but it was basically a cheap motel in every way except the price.

We picked this place for its convenient location. Even though I'd booked ahead, the man at the front desk said the only room available allowed smoking. We were exhausted, so I accepted, but it smelled so bad that my family and I chose to sleep in our vehicle. When I told him, suddenly he had another room next door. That room was dingy and needed a deep cleaning too. The blow dryer didn't work, and the AC was weak. I understand the price is affordable, but the rooms should at least feel clean.

The grandsons had fun at the pool and slide, and the beds were comfortable. Our room was a good size and clean enough. The air conditioning unit was much too small to cool the whole room, and I'm sure it wouldn't keep it warm in winter.
