Little Cozy Home

I’ve never before had to break into accommodation I paid for. The host’s directions sounded simple: go around the left side of the house and around back to the basement suite, with the key in a lockbox on the door handle. But there was a gate on the left, and the cord to open its lock had been pulled through to the other side, so I couldn’t unlock the seven-foot gate. Climbing over meant scratches and bruises. I ended up taking a neighbor’s chair to reach the lock. At the door, there was no lockbox on the handle. I eventually found it, but by then I was pretty annoyed. The cord wasn’t an easy fix either, though I eventually got it back through the hole. The place inside was mostly as advertised, but very sparse. I thought it was fair not to pay the full price after this, but the host has ignored my requests to discuss it and was also ignoring AirBNB. Now AirBNB is suggesting I make a claim through its insurance. The place wasn’t as it should have been, and some kind of refund is customary. The host still won’t respond.
