Vanderhoof Inn

The standout was the man working the desk. I don’t know his name, but he was exceptionally welcoming, and both my supervisor and I respected him. His manners and personality shone through the dim lobby, dirty carpet, and stained ceilings. The place itself, though, needs a lot of care. My room had someone else’s hair in the bed and an empty beer box. I didn’t want to walk barefoot. There was no AC, screen on the window, closet, place to hang clothes, or confirmation email. The shower wouldn’t drain properly, and its head was fixed facing the wall. Paint was flaking off the bathroom fixtures, and the soap was very low quality. The fan plug didn’t fit the outlet by the window, so I had to move the power bar and that disabled the TV. It was very dark, and the area is frequented by degenerates. If clean rooms, AC, working amenities, and quiet matter to you, don’t stay here. I wouldn’t come back. There’s a real contrast between the staff member and the establishment. I hope they sort out the problems quickly, since the place badly needs some TLC before it becomes a hotspot for the unsightly. For $20 more, there are better places in Vanderhoof.

There’s no AC, but the window works well when it’s in the low 20s Celsius. It has no screen, though, so bugs get in. The downstairs pub isn’t serving food at the moment, but there’s a pizza place nearby. Great price, easy to find, friendly staff, and motorcycle-friendly parking. I’d stay again.

Sid was nice at check-in and found someone at the hotel who could lend me a phone charger. My room seemed clean enough, but I was surprised it had neither a phone nor an alarm clock, since I happened to need both during my stay. The walls seemed thin, too. I could hear video games, movies, and other things from rooms on either side and down the hall, though that noise may not be typical. The price might make it a good choice if you don’t need those features. Ask about anything you might need to know that they don’t mention at check-in. I wasn’t told the checkout time, and it wasn’t posted online or at the hotel, so I supposedly checked out late.

It was quiet, and the owners are nice. I was in a tough spot, and they could’ve charged me more, but they gave me the best rate in town. I really appreciate it. Sunny and Sid are really nice guys who treat you with respect and understanding. Thanks, guys.
