Tiki Village

Nothing about the room matched the photos from before booking. There was a hole in the window covered with a Band-Aid, a burn hole in the comforter, and another hole in the wall. The heater didn't work, the patio screen or curtain was a utility-grade tarp, and the laminate floor was coming apart. Cleaning supplies had been left in the bathroom, and the pool wasn't working. The kitchen had a random mix of odd things, including a crock pot with no cooking insert, and there were things like hooks stuck to the wall. Staff were pleasant, but there didn't seem to be a sheet of rules. Instead, they read them to us and left us to memorize them. There was more, but I don't want to write a novel about a motel well past its glory days and struggling on life support.

We could barely stand in the reception office because it smelled so bad. The office was dirty, disorganized, and unprofessional, with dirty laundry lying around. The operators were kind, but completely unprofessional. The room and washroom were filthy, the linens dirty, and the ceilings and walls had water damage. We stayed because wildfires left us with no other options. If you can sleep in your car, I'd recommend that over wasting money here. During checkout, we happened to walk into our room while it was being cleaned and saw that the bed was being remade with the same linen we'd used, rather than having it changed.

The price is fantastic, the location is great, the service is good, and the rooms are clean. I've stayed here a few times and have noticed some small improvements over the years. The pool could use a proper clean, though it wasn't horrible and was still nice. This isn't a 5* hotel, but I personally love the spot and will keep staying here when I'm in town.

There's a lot of space in the rooms, and the brick and concrete walls keep things private and quiet, even near a busy intersection. The staff are friendly, but seemed overwhelmed or stressed. Cleanliness and sanitization were overlooked everywhere: surfaces were sticky or dusty, and garbage from dirty guests was left outside rooms, in stairwells, by garden hedges, and in the parking area. The "pool" out back is better described as a swamp or a big puddle. This quaint little motel could be so much more with some effort and upkeep.
