The location is nice and close to downtown, and the rooms are amazing. Breakfast was pretty good too. What put me off was that the rooms weren't cleaned every day. Once, while I was sleeping, a staff member knocked just once and then opened my door, which felt uncomfortable. I also found the owner, I think, or one of the women serving breakfast a bit creepy. It's okay to try once, but probably not somewhere I'd stay again.

I stayed for one night when I visited Victoria about a year and a month or so ago, for my birthday, and it was awesome. The location was cool, and despite being next to a pretty busy road, it was quieter through the night than you'd expect. My room and bed were both very nice. Breakfast was nice as well. There was only one other couple there when I went down, so it felt peaceful, though I'm pretty sure it would've been nice with more people too. The interior was authentic, nostalgic, and nicely decorated. I got a view of another room, and they all seemed high quality. Some even looked like they might have a bit of a view of the castle just up the hill, which is awesome. The vibe was a bit creepy, but I don't think there's much you can do about that in an old house with very few other guests. An awesome, charming historic inn, and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting victoria.

The first evening and night at garden gate weren't so great. Extension cords and a portable fan made it feel like a motel, the toilet had no water to flush in the morning, and the insulation isn't great. I woke to the loud sound of water draining. But Rachel was an amazing host in the morning, so five stars for Rachel!

It's well priced, with a few restaurants close by. Downtown and the Oak Bay waterfront are a couple km away on foot. Keep in mind there's no elevator, and some rooms are two storeys up.

We absolutely loved the hostess who was working during our stay, though sadly we forgot to ask her name. It was a pleasant surprise that breakfast in the dining room came at no extra charge: eggs benny, yogurt and fruit parfait, a muffin, and coffee. My partner booked two nights for our Victoria trip, and the manor was right up our alley as we're both fans of antique vibes. It's beautifully decorated from the moment you enter, with unique old-world charm, and we especially liked the seasonal decorations. Our one real downside was the fairly firm, uncomfortable bed in the room we chose. It wasn't a huge deal for a short stay, but my back felt it after two nights. A lovely little place and a unique experience, worth checking out if you're in the area.
