The water smelled like boiled spinach, and the fan cover was disgusting. The rooms were filthy too: there was a hairbrush left behind, hair in the sheets, a bloodstain, fake eyelashes and bottle caps on the floor. They say the place was renovated, yet there’s an ancient thermostat and room keys instead of key cards. They also got our room count wrong despite our confirmation, and the restaurant has been closed for weeks. I can’t imagine what their non-luxury hotel would be like. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel and town.

I’ve been here for three months, and the rooms have stayed clean, with fresh towels every day. The owner and new management have replaced the beds and bedding, added pillows, and upgraded the smart TVs. There’s a big sports center across the road and the lake is nearby. The attached restaurant is closed at the moment, though I know they plan to reopen it. Thanks to the owner and staff for being so nice!

There was nobody at reception to answer questions, and the ad on Google Maps says breakfast comes with the stay, but it doesn’t. I didn’t try the restaurant. The room itself was okay, though I had doubts about the cleanliness, especially since both remote controls were filthy. The wall AC control didn’t work either. I agree with some of the bad reviews.

The place feels rough these days, maybe because it was better back when the oilfield was booming. I’m here for a week of work, and it seems like only three people are running the whole operation. The restaurant food was mediocre at best, with terrible service. My baked meatball lasagna had just three meatballs, grey and cold inside, and tasted rough. Behind the bar was a mess, and the main entrance handle was falling off. The parking lot was littered with toilet paper, cotton swabs, garbage and cigarette butts. The rooms were okay, but the complimentary kitchen knives and cutting board were dirty, as were both grimy TV remotes. It feels like a third-world establishment. Just go to the Nova hotel in Wabasca, it’s top notch.

Four days before check-in, she called to say the rooms I’d reserved had been given to someone else. I’d booked two rooms for treaty days two weeks ahead, with two side-by-side rooms confirmed in my name, so I was left scrambling to find somewhere else. She basically said it was her hotel and she could do as she pleased. Very unprofessional and unreliable. I’ll never book here again.
