Comfort Inn Waterloo

I never made it through check-in, so I can’t comment on the rooms. I’d called about three days earlier to book and specifically said I’d bring my dog and needed a pet-friendly room. They confirmed one was available and gave me a price. At check-in, the manager said there were no pet-friendly rooms and just stared at me. After an awkward pause, I asked if that meant I couldn’t stay. Only then did he say he’d check with housekeeping. He came back and said an accessible room that allowed pets was available and free. We continued checking in, then he quoted a price $30 higher than my reservation. I said I didn’t think I should pay extra for a problem with their booking system. He didn’t seem to see it as his problem since he blamed the parent company, though he represents them. He suggested I take it up with the company, but I didn’t think a communication mistake between the hotel and parent company should cost me time or money. I left and stayed at the Inn of waterloo down the road. They’re great, lovely, and have their booking system in order. Nobody was rude, and I had a very nice chat with one receptionist. They didn’t charge me for cancelling, but I won’t return.

It’s on a main street, so lots of places are within walking distance. My room was upstairs, spacious, and clean, and the concierge was very nice when I arrived really late at night. Having coffee available all the time was a nice touch. A good, inexpensive place for a few nights.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and the beds were firm but comfortable, with excellent soft, moldable pillows. The rooms were relatively clean, though I found some hair in hard-to-reach spots in the washroom. Check-in was fairly easy and painless. Booking by phone took more explaining, since I needed one room for two nights and another for one night, but we got it sorted.

The front desk woman was lovely, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was really, really great. My boyfriend stayed here for work for a couple of weeks across a few months, and I’d visit for a couple nights at a time. Still, I never felt very safe. There were always sketchy neighbors with “new bikes” in and around their rooms, and when I stayed on the ground floor I’d see a shady man trying to pull open the outside doors each night. One morning, after my boyfriend had left for work, someone pulled a door open while I was still in bed on my phone. Those neighbors really clouded the experience.
