UPDATE: Two weeks later they charged my card again, this time for $125. We’re five hours away, and I think the charge was fraudulent. I’m going to let the police and my credit card company deal with these lowlifes. You can’t do this shit in Canada! I cancelled my booking because a stripped-down caravan with parts scattered around the front door made the place look like a drug den. There wasn’t even room to park and take my bags to the lobby. When I went in to see whether people were doing drugs or the place was just a rat hole, nobody was at reception. I rang the bell and waited ten minutes, then called five times with no answer. I wasn’t going to stay or leave my car there, so I went elsewhere. After I’d found another decent hotel, I returned and the manager and his son said they’d cancel the booking in full. They charged me anyway, and I had to contact them several times before I finally got a refund. Sketchy hotel!

The breakfast selection was very limited compared with other Wyndham properties I’ve stayed at. In the room, the shower had old shampoo and conditioner dribbled down the wall, the sink knobs were filthy, and it didn’t look like anyone had vacuumed. The desk clerk followed us several times while we were going between our room and the ice machine.

The grounds were dirty and unkept, and something had hit and damaged the overhang at the entrance. It should be checked for structural damage, since it could be dangerous if compromised. The place has potential if the owners put money into it. Inside, the room was bad: the bathroom was small and its door wouldn’t close. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows and shower were poor, and the air conditioner wasn’t powerful enough. Disappointing for a Wyndham company.

For a budget-priced hotel, it’s a good deal and I’d stay again. The rooms were clean and reception was helpful, and it’s close to various tourist and food spots in Whitecourt. You can’t expect Hotel Hinton at this price, but for what it is, it’s great.

I have a mobility issue, and they gave me a room that worked just right for me. Reception service was five stars, the bed and shower were nice and clean, and breakfast was filling. Thanks!
