Royal Oak Inn

The front desk staff were the one good part, very friendly and helpful. I feel for them having to work in those conditions. The place was grubby, with worn-out plug-ins, and the owners don’t seem to put money into updating the rooms.

After driving all day, I came into Whitecourt from the south and stopped at the first hotel I saw because I badly needed sleep. I waited 20 minutes while the woman figured out the computer, then paid $79 on Visa and got a key. The room reeked of smoke. I still wanted a quick shower, but waited 15 minutes and never got hot water. I got dressed and asked for a refund, but apparently refunds weren’t allowed, lol. I bought a $1.30 coffee at Petro and drove on to Fox Creek. I’ll never stay there again. It should be condemned.

I booked at the last minute during a snowstorm and got a decent price. The rooms were very clean, the beds were comfortable, and there were no bed bugs, which is all I ask.

I always have an amazing experience here, and I absolutely adore the staff. The hotel’s a bit outdated, but that’s fine with me. Good customer service ALWAYS beats appearances.
