The room was clean, which was the main positive. We stayed one night, and our two-year-old could open the door and get out. Pulling the handle released the deadbolt, so it became a game for him to dash to the door and run off. Staff checked how it worked and said it was designed to let people out during a fire. But there was no chain or other way to secure the door. When I said I thought that was unsafe, the night-shift person was very rude and basically told me to deal with it because it wasn’t their problem. The next morning, staff brushed us off too. They said they’d put in a request, but that’s just how the doors work. We’ve never stayed anywhere our child could get out of the room so easily, or had staff respond with so little empathy. It was our worst motel experience so far, and I was appalled by how they handled it. The owner encouraged me to improve my parenting, which I appreciate. But I’ve never before had to stand in front of a door or hold my child just to use the washroom or change clothes safely. We managed to barricade it with the table and chairs, but I’ve never had to do that at any other hotel or motel. This still doesn’t seem like a place for families with young children.

I’ve been going there around the same time for seven years straight, and the pool has only been open for two of those visits. Also, I stood at the front desk for two minutes before the girl noticed me. She was watching a movie or something on her phone.

They were really accommodating for my family of six and our two dogs. The staff, breakfast, and rooms were all wonderful. I love staying here, it feels like a home away from home, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay.

We had a great 10-day stay while Swan Hills was being evacuated. My furry friend needed a little time to get used to the occasional dog barking outside, but then she loved the place. The kitchenette had everything I needed for a longer stay. I’d recommend it to anyone staying in Whitecourt.

By the second night of my week-long stay, both beds felt as hard as rocks, and the room smelled like lit matches. There was one small garbage can, and the old A/C was blowing heat during what’s been the hottest week in Alberta so far. I politely asked the front desk if they could change the mattresses because I couldn’t sleep, and if they had air freshener since the room smelled a bit. They said no to everything. Great customer service. I won’t come back or recommend the place. Before heading out the next morning, I politely asked for extra shampoo and soap. When I returned, there was one shampoo and nothing else had been done. Wow. What a dump. I’m done.
