It was quiet, and I never heard other people. The place was bigger than my apartment. After two weeks of travelling, having a home-cooked meal made it feel like home instead of a hotel. We could walk around, and our dog could roam through the cabin off leash without being underfoot in a cramped space.

Kay the driver was so nice, and the staff and location were great. We rented the wolf den, a charming little cabin made entirely of wood, with enough windows for the views and a nicely stocked kitchen. The only drawback was the sound: gaps between the planks don't block noise, so using the bathroom can be loud for anyone sleeping upstairs.

The cabin itself is well built and has almost everything you need. I especially appreciated having a washer and dryer, but the problems we ran into mean I wouldn't return. We stayed in the Cranberry, which is remote and quiet, but missing curtains on some windows made it hard to get to sleep. It was strange that some windows had curtains and others didn't. The sink pulled away from the counter when used, a large living room window wouldn't open because its handle was stripped, and the window in the front door wouldn't stay up. With airflow limited to the bedroom windows and the one by the kitchen, it got really hot inside. Outside was pleasant, but massive hornets and wasps made it hard to enjoy, especially when it was too hot to eat in the cabin. We spent most of our time away. Those issues felt minor beside my interaction with the host, Heather. Her directions contradicted themselves about whether the Cranberry Lodge was south of Whitehorse or at 32 Dusty Trail north of town. I had researched the trip carefully and the directions she gave matched my map, but the warning about GPS and the other location made me think the cabin might be somewhere else. I messaged to ask if the address was north of Whitehorse and requested coordinates. Heather replied that the directions were spelled out and that maps could search for Sundog Retreat at Policeman’s Point Road or 32 Dusty Trail. That didn't answer my question, and I was furious at the tone. People in town helped me figure out that the cabin was at the same site as the other one, north of Whitehorse, and said the email wasn't clear. I found it, but Heather never apologized or acknowledged that her instructions were confusing. A little patience and kindness matter, especially when visitors are new to the Yukon.

My 12 year old son and I visited Yukon from December 2017 to January 2018, and the cabins were clean and amazing. We had fresh, homemade food, and the activities were a wonderful experience. At 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve, we were trying to find the aurora viewing centre, so we called the owner using the phones they provided. He came out happily, walked us there, and helped set up the telescope outside. I've travelled around Yukon and Canada, and Sundog retreat has been my best experience so far. I highly recommend staying there if you're planning a trip.

The owners made us feel more like friends than customers, and every part of the place showed care, from the welcome basket to the hot tubs, sauna, and little walking trails on the beautiful property. After a week on the road toward Alaska, staying at Sundog Retreat felt like a blessing. Our apartment, "The Ravens Nest", was beautifully made and had everything for a home away from home. It's about a 20 min drive from the city, which was perfect. We slept incredibly well in a very comfortable bed and left feeling refreshed. We wished we could stay longer and hope to return one day. We'll recommend this gem to friends travelling through Whitehorse.
