Canad Inns Destination Centre Garden City

This could have been a zero-star review if that were an option. We checked into a room for my daughter’s birthday event, which we’d paid a lot for. My daughter was harassed in the hallway, then her room card suddenly stopped working. She went to the front desk and was told it wasn’t our room, even though we’d been in and out changing clothes for the event. She came back crying and hysterical, begging to go home instead of staying the night. I went back to the front desk for an explanation. Dentine and Monika said the room wasn’t ours and that someone had checked in before 11 pm. They said we had to put all our belongings away. I was frantic and trying to hold back my anger, and told them they had no right to touch our things. They demanded proof that we’d checked into that room, even while I held up my card passes with the room number on them. We were devastated and furious. They still insisted it wasn’t our room and offered another one. There was no way we could feel safe staying after that, so we checked out right then. We took all the things they’d removed from our room without permission. They’d tossed a very expensive dress into a bag like garbage. They were completely thoughtless and disrespectful. I won’t let this go, and they’ll hear more from me.

The staff were friendly, well-trained, and every interaction with them was great. But the hotel is showing its age, the pool was closed indefinitely, and our room’s bathroom needed repairs badly enough that the room should have been taken out of service until it was fixed. It was my first stay at a CanadInns, and I’m not likely to return.

This place needs updating and feels stuck in the dark ages. I’ve never seen lobby washrooms kept locked before. The ice was at the far end of the second-floor hallway, the restaurant didn’t open until 8, and the front desk clerk didn’t know about the restaurant coupon promotion.

We booked a suite for a swimming birthday party, and the kids had a blast. The pool area was quiet otherwise, and the waterslide was definitely the highlight. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable.
