Sorell Hotel Aarauerhof

The room itself was alright, but the club downstairs made it impossible to sleep. I was on the fifth floor and could still hear the bass as if I were inside the club. When it closed around 4 am, the wasted crowd outside started shouting on their way home. Then cleaners were slamming corridor doors at 8, and came back trying my door at 9. Worst night ever. Find a proper hotel, not some self-service whatever.

We booked two rooms for our band, and the rooms looked decent for the price, apart from the mouldy shower. Both had a strange smell, like an 80-year-old granny who smokes now and then. We arrived around 1 am to heavy bass from the club beneath the hotel. My room was right above the entrance, and the windows did nothing to block the clubgoers' loud conversations. You could hear the bass even on the fifth floor, and the noise carried on until 5 am. I didn't enjoy the stay.

I stayed three nights at Aarauerhof hotel with my brother and a friend in May 2025, and none of us slept. We were in Aarau to scatter my mother's ashes after she passed away last year. She was Swiss and from Aarau, and I'm part Swiss too. I also studied at echole hôtelière de lausanne. There's a bar and discotheque in the hotel, with people yelling and singing at 2 am and slamming doors that don't close properly. I complained through the intercom, but no one could help. Having nobody at the hotel to deal with situations like that is a bad system. My room wasn't cleaned once, the bathroom had black mould, and the ripped carpets were disgusting and smelly. The safe didn't work either. I wrote to the hotel after getting home to ask for a partial refund because of these problems. They first refused, then offered 5% after several emails and took my bank details. Two months later, no refund had arrived, and they stopped replying. Stay away, they don't care once they've got your money.

Self check-in was pretty simple, and the hotel is only a two-minute walk from the station. That was the main plus for me after a concert in Aarau. I was there just six hours to sleep, and the room had only the basics, one pillow and a duvet. No minibar, water, or coffee and tea machine. I'd suggest it for one night if comfort isn't important and you won't spend much time in the room.
