Hotel Goldener Schlüssel

It’s very quiet, and the staff are helpful and competent. The hotel is older but nice, with a small elevator. It’s centrally located in Altdorf, close to the transport hub, and breakfast in the morning was delicious.

The town is charming, small, quaint, and beautiful, and the hotel is well placed for seeing what it has to offer. Getting to the train station takes about a 10-minute taxi ride. The hotel staff member, one man, was impersonal and often unavailable. On the morning I left, I couldn’t find anyone in the hotel to help call a cab or check out.

The apartment gave us three bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen for less than two hotel rooms elsewhere would have cost. The location and service were great. Some of the furniture could use replacement or refurbishment, but the place definitely has atmosphere.

Breakfast was a good start to the day, with plenty to choose from and friendly staff to welcome you. I didn’t eat at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the food there. There are several restaurants nearby. The room was among the cheapest and fine for sleeping, but not really for relaxing. It had just one dim light, and although there’s a desk, no outlet nearby. There’s one beside the bed, plus three behind the TV that I found after looking around. You’ll definitely hear people in the corridor. The bathroom had what I needed, but when using the sink my bum touched the door, and the noisy sliding door was a nuisance.
