Schorta's Hotel Alvetern

The ski bus to ftan ski lift and back was a really useful touch, and I loved the boot warmer in the equipment room. Schorta is such a welcoming, friendly host and knows the area incredibly well. The cleanliness, food and hospitality were outstanding, and the hotel felt like a five-star place. I had a wonderful stay and would love to come back. They treated me so well I wasn’t sure how I could return the favor. Grazia!

The staff are so friendly, and after a good day in the mountains I’d recommend the five-course meal. It’s a lovely hotel in one of Switzerland’s most beautiful cantons. I’ll definitely find a reason to come back.

This was our number one stop on the Grand Tour of Switzerland. The owners looked after us so thoughtfully, with care in every detail. You can unwind in comfortable rooms or on terraces with views of the mountains and historic town. For a short outing, walk through town to the castle ruins, then follow the longer path into the mountains. There are meadows and pastures along the way, with nature all around. Breakfast is a great start for nearby trails and mountain passes, and being able to make sandwiches and coffee for the road is a big plus. We recommend staying here to motorcyclists and everyone else.

The owners really make this place special. They’re friendly without hovering, encourage guests to pack a lunch from breakfast, and even have a sign welcoming the public to use the toilets. We had dinner there both nights, and the food was delicious and nicely prepared at very reasonable prices by Swiss standards. The rooms are modern, breakfast is good, and the location works well for exploring the area.
