Romantik Hotel de L'Ours

I ended up dining at this incredible restaurant for a wedding reception, and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had. There were only a few guests, so dinner was in a beautiful, classy room with cozy details that made us feel welcome and comfortable. The six-course menu was tailored beautifully, with fine local ingredients, fresh flavors, and lovely textures. The aperitif was delicious and just the right amount, and the dessert was amazing. The wedding cake was beyond words. Service was discreet, informative, and completely professional. The owner was welcoming and kind, keeping an eye from a distance to make sure everything went to plan. I wish I’d booked a room too. Next time I’ll treat myself to an overnight stay :)

Breakfast was a highlight, with beautifully prepared homemade food that looked as lovely as it tasted, plus great coffee. Hôtel de l’Ours is charming, with tasteful decor and plenty of warmth and character. We stayed one night in Sugiez for a peaceful weekend away without the kids. Our room was cozy and quiet, and we slept really well. Everything about the stay felt just right. We’d happily come back and recommend it to anyone after a relaxing break in a lovely setting.

The lunch menu on this Friday in mid-January 2025 was vegetable soup, very tender lamb chops cooked perfectly, and dessert, all for a very reasonable price. The menu is sensibly short, with meat, poultry, fish, and a vegetarian option. Wines on the extensive list come from nearby wineries, are high quality, and some are available by the glass. If you eat and drink a bit too much, which isn’t unusual in the canton of Freiburg, there are comfortable rooms here too. Good value, and highly recommended! It’s a treat to have linen tablecloths and napkins at lunch, and the owner had time to chat about regional gems like the best wineries. I’d eaten here several years ago, and the food and service are still excellent.

A lovely garden and an excellent gourmet dinner made for a nice stay at this charming, authentic country inn. It’s ideally located for a short cycling trip in the 3 Lakers area. The small, modernized rooms are adequate for a short visit. Breakfast is simple and healthy, though CHF 24.- feels overpriced.
