Room 3 was very clean, and the shared shower and toilet were surprisingly spotless too. You need a key to get in, but that was no trouble. There was a sink in the room, three towels in different sizes, shampoo, a body bar, and slippers. The bed was comfortable and the duvets kept me very warm. I paid 65 CHF for Tuesday night, which could have been cheaper, though this is Switzerland. The place is right in the center, and I stayed for one night. You check in at the restaurant in the same building. The man who welcomed me was very nice and gave me the keys, WiFi details, and a BaselCity card for transit. Checkout at 10 AM felt quite early. I wish it were at least 11 AM, especially since I had nowhere to leave my bags before checking in elsewhere. I’d read complaints about noise, but my stay was peaceful and quiet. It was a very pleasant visit.

Everyone else we met in Basel, and everywhere else we went, was wonderful and made our short break memorable. At this place, though, the waiter made us feel rushed and belittled. If we hadn’t booked the night before and had an event to attend, we would have left.

The room was cold, especially in the morning, and the old furniture could use replacing. The TV didn’t work, though that wasn’t much of a downside for me. Church bells nearby start at 7:00 every morning and ring continuously for about 2-3 minutes. We also heard quite a lot of noise from restaurant employees until around 00:00. The hotel is above a restaurant on the 3rd floor, with no elevator. There’s no 24-hour reception either, since check-in and checkout happen at the pizza restaurant on the 1st floor. On the plus side, the location is central, with a tram stop right outside and good connections to the central railway station and other parts of town. The room and shared bathroom were clean, and Wi-Fi worked well. In December, a big Christmas Market fills the square in front, and there are lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Please run from this “hotel”! There’s no elevator or Wi-Fi, and the bathroom is shared with everyone else. Reception is in the restaurant, and the invoice was just a little restaurant bill with no identification at all. RUN!
