Boutique Hotel Belle Epoque

The hotel is at the far end of the Old Town, about a five-minute walk from the Cathedral and the Zytgloggeturm. A bus stop right next door is handy: line 12 goes straight to the Paul Klee Center, and line 10 passes the main railway station, about a mile away. Both come often, useful if you don't want to walk uphill to the city center. Across the river, Altes Tramdepot is a well-known Swiss restaurant with panoramic views of Bern. My attic room had just two roof windows and no real view, and it would probably get hot in summer. During my stay, the nights and days were cooler, so the two fans kept it reasonably comfortable. The property could use refurbishment. At least the bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom worked well, so the basics were covered.

The location is right in town, so nearly everything is within walking distance. It took about 20 minutes to walk to the main Bern train station. Our room was pretty good for a two-night stay, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We came during a heat wave, though, and without AC the room got quite hot. The hotel does provide a portable fan.

We stayed at the Hotel Belle Epoque for the first few days of September this year and had no complaints. The location is wonderful, the rooms are pretty if not fully updated, and the beds were comfortable. Everything was very clean, including the shiny-clean bathrooms in our family's two rooms, which also had some nice amenities. Snacks and water were provided. We liked breakfast, and the service in both the breakfast area and the bistro suited us. What stood out most was the staff: they did everything possible to accommodate us and make our stay pleasant, and the service went beyond what we expected.

My room was clean and spacious, with a pretty good view. For tourists, the location is simply perfect.
