Hotel City am Bahnhof

I really regret not reading all those one- and two-star reviews first. Shame on me, and shame on the staff and senior management for refusing any concession despite the terrible smell in the room and the defective heater. It was snowing outside and the room was freezing. When I raised these unbearable conditions, they were dismissive, argumentative, belligerent, and condescending. They refused to refund even one penny, or one CHF. Many of the one- and two-star reviews describe what they say are unbearable smells and faulty heaters in the hallways and rooms. Anyone considering this hotel should read them all. These business practices are shameful. Stay away for your own health and safety.

The only kind people I encountered were at reception and in the restaurant. The room was freezing, there was no general heating system, the wall separation felt like a tent, and I could hear people around me. There were very bad smells, and the bed and pillows were in poor condition. The phone was disconnected, so I had to go downstairs to speak to the receptionist. I had to stay two nights before moving elsewhere so I could spend the remaining five days working in town. Worst experience ever.

The location and helpful staff were the only positives. There was no air conditioning, and the fan was too weak to sleep with in summer. The fridge wasn’t cold at all and was filled with minibar drinks. There were only three sockets in the room, two taken up by lamps and one by the bedside. The hardware was old, the washroom smelled, and there were plenty of other problems.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but a young woman at reception saved our day and our vacation. My partner’s bike broke near the hotel, and she helped him find a bicycle repair shop. She was so incredibly friendly. Thank you!
