Berghotel Schynige Platte

After the last train had taken the crowds down, I had the chance to wander around Schynige Plate, and again at sunrise. The location is incredible. Under clear skies I got some of my favorite astrophotography shots of the Platte. I was there on a Saturday with the dine and sleep package, and the four-course meal was exceptional, every dish was a pleasure. The host and staff were welcoming, friendly, and professional. The hotel has a nostalgic feel, and I loved its decor and atmosphere just as they are. It was a fantastic stay and very good value.

The views were incredible, and the hotel's cleaning service especially surprised us in a good way. Still, I couldn't believe they had no milk or plant-based options in the middle of 2025.

The rooms were cozy and clean, and the food and views were both amazing. It was a wonderful one-night stop on our long-distance hike. The rooms are fun, so sharing dormitory-style bathrooms felt like a small drawback. If you stay for more than one night, dinner may not feel quite as good each evening. The staff seemed to struggle with the choices on the second night.

The four-course dinner was a highlight for me. Every dish was tasty, thoughtfully prepared, and nicely presented, and the breakfast buffet had plenty of choices, including regional items. The staff were exceptionally kind and made me feel welcome from the start. Hotel Schynige Platte also sits in a beautiful spot, with lovely views of the landscape. A really pleasant stay.
