Hotel Franziskaner

This is a lovely bed and breakfast in a perfect spot in the old town. My room felt fresh, comfortable, and nice, and the staff were extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast was simple and delicious. I've seen a few bad reviews and don't really understand them, as I have nothing negative to say. I'll keep coming back.

The restaurant was the culinary highlight of my short time in Switzerland. I usually don't eat where I sleep, but with work to do I went downstairs for something simple and found the place nearly full. I was lucky to get a table. The Italian cooking team serves a strong menu of traditional Swiss dishes, some specific to the canton, I was told. My barley soup was simple but tasty, followed by walnut dumplings in a lovely cheese sauce, the traditional homemade potato dough parcels with cabbage, cheese, and walnut butter. Both dishes were delicious and filling. I forgot about dessert and any more work, and spent the evening digesting in my cramped room. The excellent food and service more than made up for a somewhat tired property. The hotel itself was fine, if a little so-so, and the restaurant was the outstanding half of the stay. Check-in was easy, and the cheerful, enthusiastic young Portuguese woman who checked me in was efficient too. My room was up two narrow, steep flights of stairs to the second floor. She joked that it was the fitness hotel. As an Australian, with the dollar so weak against the franc at the moment, I chose a room with a shared bathroom. That's generally fine for me, and the second-floor bathroom was very clean and seemed recently renovated. The room had what I needed, including enough power points, a tiny table and chair, and a washbasin, which is handy when sharing a bathroom. There was a huge wardrobe, big enough to sleep in if you like sleeping upright, but hardly any room for my suitcase. The property is older and this room could do with freshening up. Still, it was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the heating worked almost too well. Not my best room, but adequate for one night. Hotel Frabziskaner has a forgotten charm, and I'd recommend it for an enjoyable stay.

The care and service at this hotel really impressed me during my overnight stay, especially Ana at the front desk. She was helpful, polite, and very accommodating. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Chur.

A lovely hotel with a clean room and friendly staff. The elevator was missing, and breakfast was just okay for the price.
