Stern Hotel's hospitality turned a stressful day into one of the best moments of our trip. Our original Agoda booking went wrong and we were stranded, but we found Stern Hotel just a few minutes away. Everyone we met was wonderful and seemed to genuinely care. The hotel is the oldest in Chur and full of history, yet the amenities felt high quality and well looked after. At the restaurant, Aline took great care of us and suggested two wines that matched our meals perfectly. We also tried the traditional Bündner Trilogie, which was divine. We paid more than we would have with our original booking, but it was worth every cent. At the front desk, Molena (I hope I got the spelling right) greeted us warmly and offered us a room while we sorted things out with Agoda. She was kind throughout. Mr. Froppa, the owner, went above and beyond too, bringing drinks and biscuits while we were on the phone, then offering us a discounted rate and mentioning exciting room renovations planned for the future. (We didn't realize Mr. Froppa was the owner until everything was sorted out. He's a great leader and host!) Huge thanks to him and his wonderful team. We can't recommend this place enough.

Mrs. Fromm handled our booking by phone, and she was very friendly and helpful, then welcomed us herself when we arrived. Our room was large and cozy, with a lovely rustic wooden smell. Breakfast was average. The most disappointing part was the person serving it, who didn't seem welcoming or pleasant. Staff who interact with guests should get training in that, especially during the festive holiday season. I hope management provides it.

A traditional hotel that we both liked. The staff were polite and very helpful, and I'd recommend staying here. Our only issue was the shower size. It was adequate, but we're both small people, about 1.6m tall.

It's on the edge of the old town, which is worth exploring, and there are some good restaurants nearby. The station is an easy 700m walk, and reception is downstairs and open 24 hours. It can get busy since there's not much space, so be patient. This is an old historic building that has been restored, but it still has plenty of stairs, twists, and turns. Our room was okay, with a comfortable bed, the usual twin setup pushed together and two doonas. It was quite warm, so we needed to keep the window open. The room was serviced to a consistent standard. We only had two coffee pods, though four would've been nicer. I also couldn't find any English channels on the TV. The shower over the bath really isn't acceptable these days. The hotel bar is small. When staff were there they were great, but they were seldom around, so the service was poor and generally disorganized. Breakfast was a typical Swiss spread and didn't make much of an impression on me. There were quite a few groups staying at the hotel too.
