Pilgerhaus Allegro

Everything in the hotel, including our room, was impeccably clean, which was the highlight for us. The staff at reception and in the breakfast restaurant were both very friendly, and breakfast itself was solid. We also found it a good deal for the price. The hotel sits in a beautiful natural setting, with Zurich, Lucerne, and the other places we planned to visit easy to reach by car.

I came to this lovely Swiss canton for a difficult reason, not for work or a holiday: my dog was being treated at a well-known veterinary oncology center nearby. Each day, people at the hotel asked how she was doing and looked for ways to make things easier for me. Their concern and sensitivity meant a lot during a hard time. I don't want to single anyone out, but I want to thank all the staff for the care they put into their work and their guests. The hotel itself also has plenty going for it at honest rates: a peaceful green setting, ample free parking, a large park, a varied buffet breakfast included in the price, and a spacious sun terrace. You can see those things on the website, but the kindness of the people who work there is something you discover by staying.

The room was really nice and the staff were friendly. Food was a letdown if you're vegetarian, though. Here that often seemed to mean regular food with the meat removed. The polenta and risotto were dry and had no herbs or spices. Salt doesn't count as a spice, in my book. You can get to hiking trails fairly quickly, which is nice, but the location itself doesn't have a particularly nice view and isn't especially quiet. Also, having no working internet and very weak mobile reception was a real problem during my workshop.
