Waldhotel by Bürgenstock Lake Lucerne

The housekeeping team kept our room clean and tidy, and they were pleasant every time we saw them. In the evening, one of the women remembered our dog's name and made sure she was comfortable too, such a lovely touch. The spa and breakfast were highlights, and the views are amazing. Staff were attentive to all our needs. We had a restful weekend as a family in this iconic place, and it was wonderful for both families and dogs.

The main issue for us was the spa policy. We come to the Bürgenstock every year mainly to enjoy the spa over two days, but we learned only at check-out that we couldn't use it after checking out. We'd discussed our plans at check-in and nobody mentioned the restriction. It should be made clear when booking, instead of being tucked into the hotel's terms and conditions. We gave the hotel this feedback directly. Since the spa was the main attraction, the change has made us reconsider our annual destination. It no longer provides the experience we expected, and now feels more like a high-capacity commercial resort than a luxury spa hotel. Restaurants were fully booked on all 3 of our stays, so even hotel guests aren't guaranteed a table without reserving days or weeks ahead. We managed to get a table at Spices at 9h15pm. The lobby is another option, but having to plan so far ahead is disappointing for a luxury resort. This was our third stay, and the setting and comfort are still at a high level. We received a warm welcome, the rooms were comfortable, and the food and drinks were generally good. Still, this was our first real and significant disappointment.

The coffee at breakfast could be better. We're not in Italy or at Autogrill, and I rarely get a great Cappuccino in a Swiss hotel ;-) Apart from that, it was a great experience: beautiful surroundings for walks, an amazing SPA, and a lovely bar and lobby with good food and drinks. The service was warm and professional everywhere, from check-in to the bar, breakfast, and Spa. Our dog was welcome everywhere, even in the restaurants, which was another big plus.

Very lavish, with great views. It's top luxury for those who can afford it. You can still buy a pass to enjoy the resort and its setting, or have a glass of wine. Tickets are available at the visitor center in Luzern station.
