Gasthof zum Kreuz

We loved staying at this beautiful hotel in a small Swiss town. The service was amazing, everyone was so friendly and spoke several languages. The restaurant had delicious food, a full menu with lots of choices, and a full drink menu. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

Marbach is surrounded by lovely countryside, with plenty to see nearby and great hiking. The hotel’s restaurant serves great food, and an afternoon beer or cocktail on the terrace beside the pretty garden is highly recommended. It’s a lovely little hotel right in the center of Marbach. A kind husband and wife team run it and do their best to make guests’ stays enjoyable. The building is a classic, though being made of wood and only lightly sound insulated comes with some quirks.

The food at Gasthof Kreuz Restaurant was incredible, especially the homemade sausage, mustard, sauerkraut, and salad. We also enjoyed plenty of good beer and a lot of laughter over conversation. Nikk welcomed us right away and brought blankets when he heard we’d been hiking in the rain. He speaks English, French, German, and other languages, and made us feel at home. We’re planning to return when we’re next in the area, and highly recommend it.

Diane and Nikk made us feel at home as soon as we arrived, and everything after that only added to the experience. Gasthof Kreuz has hosts who clearly care about giving guests a memorable stay, from the decor and Diane’s homemade bath salt packages to the meal Nikk prepared with such passion. We also took a Negroni cocktail-making course at the hotel, hosted by internationally renowned Distillerie Studer, which is just up the road. Then came Nikk’s special three-course dinner. He joined us afterward to share stories and even recipes from his life in the culinary arts. The mattresses were a pleasant surprise for my fussy back, and I slept perfectly. Breakfast was just as good: Diane welcomed us to a table filled with locally sourced cheese and yogurt, meats, freshly baked gipfel, and bread. We’re grateful to Diane and Nikk and hope to return soon, perhaps for another cocktail course if one is available.
