Hotel Alpha

Everything was clean, and the location was excellent, just a short walk from the city center. Reception was very friendly, and the underground parking was convenient for an extra fee. The room was on the small side, especially the cramped bathroom. The bed felt worn and wasn't very comfortable. There was no air conditioning, so we slept with the window open and heard street traffic and nearby apartments. For one night it was pretty okay, but nothing special.

The conference organisers recommended Hotel Alpha, and I'd consider staying there again. I was happy with the service overall, despite a few drawbacks. Its location is handy for both the train station and city center, and entry is secure. Between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, you can only get in with a room key. The staff were attentive. Rada made coffee and hosted breakfast on the first day, and was polite and thoughtful. Sabrina at reception was great too. I brought teabags as a Brit, then realised there was no kettle in my room. She quickly arranged one and some milk/crema for my tea. Breakfast was good, an 8 out of 10, though a wider selection would have been nice. The room got extremely hot, reaching 36 degrees centigrade (96.8 Fahrenheit), and there was no air conditioning. A fridge for water and other drinks would've helped in that heat. Email service after booking was disappointing. Before I booked, my questions got quick replies. After booking with the intention to pay on arrival, I sent a couple more emails as my trip got closer and heard nothing. I'd still recommend Hotel Alpha if being near the station and city center matters to you. Fribourg has other options at different budgets, and despite the small downsides I'd consider returning in the near future.

At €160 a night for one person, I expected more. This doesn't meet business hotel standards and feels more like a lower-budget place. The staff at reception spoke little English and didn't seem willing to understand or help. Breakfast was good, but the selection was very limited and the service wasn't great. The rooms look modern and okay, but there's no air conditioning, just defective fans, so summer gets hot and sticky. The bathroom is tiny, with cheap fixtures and a view of an ugly backyard. There are very few power outlets. The elevators and garage are old, unfriendly, and tiny.

The staff were warm and helpful, and the kids got a surprise treat at Easter at the end of our stay. The hotel was quiet and in an excellent location. We were glad a breakfast buffet was available during the pandemic, so thank you for that. The bed and pillows weren't very comfortable. Our room was dim, with little daylight. The shower gel bottles were nearly empty and weren't refilled on the second day, even though we stayed two nights. The underground parking was also quite cramped.
