Chalet La Luge

We never tired of looking out across the valley during meals. The area is great for hiking and more active pursuits like canyoning and biking, and Mini was so helpful and welcoming. We had a family holiday at this amazing chalet that went beyond all our expectations. We’ll certainly come back for another family trip in a few years.

We’ve stayed at Chalet La Luge three times, and the hosts, Dan and Mini, keep everything in excellent shape and pay remarkable attention to their guests’ needs. The nightly dinners are outstanding, with real care taken over allergies and other dietary requirements. After skiing, there’s always a freshly baked treat on the table for tea. The ski area is enormous, with enough lifts and runs to keep you busy, as well as seemingly endless off-piste options. A week here might sound like a once-in-a-lifetime trip, but it’s absolutely worth repeating. We’d change nothing. On a five-star scale, Chalet La Luge deserves at least eleven. The price is also genuinely accessible if you come outside the popular holiday periods and school vacations. Thank you, Mini and Dan!

The place itself is lovely, but unfortunately the owners aren’t. Only book here if you’re prepared to lose your deposit. They kept 510CHF because there was rubbish in the bathroom bin, fingerprints on the windows, and a floor they said needed mopping again after we’d mopped it. They also charged us for two missing mattress protectors. We hadn’t stripped the beds, so how would we have taken them? And who takes a couple of mattress protectors from their accommodation anyway? They also claimed a jacuzzi jet was broken, but sent no photo. It could only have been a hidden, non-visible jet, since we didn’t break anything on the jacuzzi. We were told about all this 10 DAYS after leaving, without any photographs. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

The views are amazing, and the chalet has what you need, including a really good log fire. The lifts are close and easy to reach, with restaurants and sports shops nearby too. In the village, a great little grocery store has just about everything, from fresh produce, cheese, meat and bakery items to frozen food and snow chains. There’s a lot you’re expected to do yourself for the price, and I would have liked more to be done and available. If you drive in winter, bring a four-wheel-drive vehicle and winter tyres. The hill is steep, and the track to the chalet can be hard to descend and even harder to climb back up when it’s snowy or icy. With a two-wheel-drive car, park at the top of the track by the main road, or you may get stuck.
