Hotel Alpenland

The terrace was lovely, but the cooking made for a very expensive dinner I can't recommend. Even with good ingredients, the dishes felt overworked and pretentious, and their natural flavors got lost. The steak tartare came with curry and pine nuts, while the gazpacho had been strained down to a sharp, acidic liquid without the original soup's body or richness. The veal cutlets cost 280 CHF per kilo, which felt wildly overpriced. Their elaborate sauce also took away from the meat's natural succulence instead of letting it shine.

I didn't stay overnight, just stopped in for dessert. The ice cream was really good, I think it was homemade 😊. And the hotel looked miraculous with the full moon coming up over the mountains. Maybe I'll come by for my December birthday.

We spent four nights here over New Year, and it made a perfect break. The place is comfortable and relaxed, without the grand, pretentious feel of the hotels down the road in Gstaad. Half board worked really well: dinner was consistently good, and the vegetarian menu had just as much thought put into it as the meat dishes. The location is excellent for walks and cross-country skiing when there's snow. It's at the village's edge, so it's very quiet, and the service was outstanding from beginning to end. A wonderful hotel, highly recommended.

The hotel was busy during our short stay, but everything ran smoothly. We found the mix of families, couples, and groups of friends really nice, and the food was excellent. Service was attentive and fun, too. The staff were friendly, helpful, and competent. We'd absolutely like to return.
