Hotel Steinbock

We had a lovely dinner here. The servers were attentive and sweet, and the food was delicious. My husband ordered the elk with a rich, flavorful sauce, while I had the “bad hunter” mushroom ragout. If you enjoy game, you'll love it. Highly recommend!

They let me keep the balcony room for all three days, even though I was originally booked to move to a smaller room without one. The view across the Jungfrau range was epic. It was a cozy place, the staff were super, and breakfast was very good. They cooked the bacon amazingly. Being close to the train station was handy too. I'll definitely come back.

We shared a fondue, which was just right for two, and my husband finished with marzipan, cherry, and chocolate ice cream that he really enjoyed. The Forest mushroom cream soup was smooth and full of flavor. We also liked the lamb lettuce salad with wild mushrooms, bacon, and raspberry vinaigrette. The waitstaff were friendly, and everything we tried was delicious. Wish we could eat here more often.

We left after one night, even though we had booked two. We weren't told when booking that our room would be in another building, right beside the cable car station. People could look straight into the room or potentially get in easily, which left us feeling unsafe and uncomfortable. We kept the window closed the first night. The room itself was disappointing too. The facilities were mostly old and not working properly, and the very old carpet had a strong unpleasant smell. We knew what type of hotel we were booking and didn't expect luxury, but this was the worst stay of our Swiss trip. The front desk experience added to it: some staff had poor manners and an attitude that felt somewhat discriminatory. A few others, to be fair, were kind and helpful.
