Swiss Historic Hotel Villa Carona

Breakfast on the terrace was the one thing that made it hard to relax, with so many wasps and bees around. I appreciate that the hotel respects nature and protects these important creatures, but perhaps there are gentle ways to make breakfast outside more comfortable. The rest of our one-night stay in Carona was wonderful. The garden is stunning and clearly cared for, and the whole place feels warm, welcoming, and almost like being in someone's home, with plenty of comfort and refinement. Its authentic mix of rustic charm and elegance, and the well-kept interiors and surroundings, gave the hotel a special atmosphere. The restaurant had a lovely ambience and outstanding food, one of the best value-for-money meals we've had in a long time. Breakfast itself was high quality, with lots of carefully prepared options. The hotel also combines its familiar feel with culinary experiences that could rival some of the finest hotels we've stayed in.

The architecture fits beautifully into the mountain landscape, and the original stones hint at a fascinating past. The décor is meticulously cared for, with furnishings that balance classic and local details. Villa Carona is a little boutique hotel in a breathtaking mountain setting, a real refuge of peace and beauty surrounded by nature. The cuisine is excellent, with fresh, quality ingredients and a nostalgic simplicity that even discerning diners would enjoy. Each meal felt like an unforgettable mix of authentic flavors. Service was impeccable, and the attentive, professional staff were always available to help. There are nature trails nearby, a paradise for hiking fans, accessible in every season and full of beautiful views and quiet moments. Shared stories and activities from the hotel make the stay more engaging. The San Pellegrino thermal baths are nearby, so you can combine a visit there with time at Villa Carona. It felt like a complete experience for body and mind, one that left lasting memories. Highly, highly recommend!

A small, friendly hotel up in the mountains near Lugano, with a comfortable room and amazing views. Breakfast in the garden was fantastic, with the mountains behind us. It's the kind of place where you can just sit, relax, and take in the scenery. Violetta in the restaurant and hotel was so nice and looked after us really well.

That restaurant was a real letdown for the price. The staff there were much nicer than the hotel staff, but the beef tartare looked, felt, and tasted very unusual, and the thick, overly creamy fish sauce seemed completely out of place. That dish alone cost 42 CHF, more like Zurich prices than somewhere in a small town many people haven't heard of. The grounds are gorgeous: the garden, pool, old villa, views, and little town all have so much going for them. But the peace was lost with large family groups and several young children around. It felt like an amusement park, and we weren't the only guests bothered by it. At these prices, families need some ground rules so other guests can enjoy their stay too. We also had repeated trouble with one staff member, who had short hair and a strong eastern German dialect. They were rude to us on several occasions. I don't know why, but it didn't feel like hospitality. It's hard to write this because the place is beautiful and has real potential. We'd like to visit the area again, but next time we'll look for somewhere else.
