Walter au Lac

There was no heat in the room in November. At 21:00, reception said maybe someone would look into it. They brought a heater and switched it on, but it seemed to cause a dangerous short circuit that cut electricity to the rooms on our floor. We asked to move and eventually got another room. Hard to believe this hotel is still in business.

The location and view were the only good parts of this stay. On the first night, the bathtub was so tiny you couldn't put both feet in properly, and it was slippery and dangerous. We asked for a shower room the next night, but the water kept switching between hot and cold. The manager was rude and wouldn't budge when we complained. She said the building was old and nothing could be done. For what they charge, surely they could spend some money updating the pipes and maintaining the rooms. She showed no understanding of customer service.

Breakfast was delicious, and sitting by the water while eating was lovely. There's also a cute rooftop lounge. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel felt safe. It's right on the water with a gorgeous view, a wonderful place to stay in Lugano. I'd highly recommend it.

It's a wonderful spot, with the piazza only a two-minute walk away and a great restaurant on the ground floor. All the rooms face the water, though if you can, get a balcony room. Sitting outside with a drink at the end of the day is special. The rooms aren't big, but they're perfectly usable and have all the amenities. A really good breakfast is included. Great hotel right on Lugano's waterfront.
