I picked this hotel for its location near the station, and the location really is very good. The rooms and hotel were clean, and breakfast was acceptable, but I left a bit disappointed after seeing the glowing reviews. There was no check of COVID certificates and no mask requirement. My room had white carpet with dirt marks that couldn’t be cleaned. Some rooms face the street, where you can often hear the ambulance because the hospital is close by. We couldn’t have dinner in the restaurant since every table was occupied. The elderly owner was friendly, though not very fit, and handles all the admin herself, so patience is needed. For a holiday in Lugano, I’d choose somewhere else.

The garden and the views were lovely, and the villa has such a cosy, distinctive feel. Our room was comfortable and super clean, dinner was delicious, and the staff and hostess were lovely too. Trying the food is a must. It was my first stay, but definitely won’t be my last.

The food here is beyond reproach, whether you book a room with breakfast and the simpler dinner dishes or come in for à la carte. Both options are excellent. The rooms and interiors feel old-fashioned, but I hardly ever write about places unless they’re interesting, and this one is. I wonder why the Michelin guide hasn’t found it yet!

The garden is beautiful, and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. Staff were polite, and the woman at the front desk spoke Spanish and English with us. It’s about 20 minutes from the city centre.

In a hidden garden in Lugano, they serve genuine, homemade cuisine. Book ahead and enjoy the dishes, prepared with real skill. Fabulous.
