Alpenlodge Val Gronda

What bothered us most was the manager's response when we raised our concerns. He brushed them off as “our opinions,” said “this is not a playground,” and pointed to his years at large US hotel chains as proof he knew good service. He didn't even apologize for the misleading view description. We booked a “Panorama” Junior Suite for five nights, expecting the advertised “breathtaking view of the Brigelser Hörner.” Instead, we looked out at the parking lot, where people could also see into our room. The room itself was fine. The wellness area was okay too, but the whirlpool was only lukewarm, despite being described as a place to “relax in the warmth.” The website description has since been changed after several guests raised the issue with management. Meals were frustrating as well. Breakfast was mediocre, with croissants, fried eggs, sliced meat and cheese, orange juice, and machine coffee. The waiters often forgot our orders or brought the wrong items. At dinner, we played chess while waiting a long time between courses. After we'd finished eating and were finishing the game, a waiter told us to stop so they could set up for breakfast, even though other diners were still eating. For the price, the stay was disappointing. We don't recommend this hotel.

The restaurant served fine food made with local products, and the staff were lovely. We had a really nice couple of days in this cosy hotel. It's outside the village, but there's a free shuttle to the ski lift. I'd happily recommend it.

The SPA has several kinds of saunas, and there are lovely hiking trails nearby. We also found the hotel clean and beautifully decorated, with really friendly staff. Mario deserves a special thank you for going beyond his duties to help my partner and me feel welcome and comfortable. We had a wonderful stay at Valgronda and highly recommend it.

The spa facilities were great, the food was good, and the general manager was fantastic. A wonderful hotel.
