Hotel Victoria au Lac

I was exhausted after a 20-hour shift and hoped to rest, but the room was below every standard I can think of. There was mold in the bathroom, hair in the bathtub, stains on the sheets, and cigarette smoke smell throughout the room, among other things. I was too disgusted to stay, so I left at 2 a.m. and drove three hours home, completely worn out from work. I still haven't received a refund, and they aren't answering my emails. I've never had an experience like this in Switzerland.

After a long journey, we arrived at night to check in for the four rooms we'd booked for our families, but reception was empty. We called several times before anyone finally appeared. The air conditioners didn't work, and they lied about it, leaving us without the peaceful night's sleep we needed. We'd paid for private parking too, but they let someone visiting the bar use it. There were hardly any hotel staff around. Waiters from the nearby restaurant and bar were managing guests and had no idea what was happening. God knows how many lies they told us that night or how many scams they tried to pull.

Bugs were the worst part of our one-night stay. We found them on the walls, and some even fell onto the bed. It was nighttime and reception was closed, so the next day we contacted booking.com. The hotel still offered no solution or refund, and our little vacation was ruined. Breakfast was awful too: no buffet, just a croissant, an apple, and bread with butter. I told the staff I'm lactose intolerant and asked for another option, but they refused. The old coffee machine they put on a table kept getting stuck, and the coffee tasted like dirty water. Other guests complained as well. At check-in, the woman at the desk said they had stopped offering breakfast to booking.com customers, even though it was part of my reservation. I called booking.com right away, and they told the hotel it couldn't change the booking conditions. That made for a bad first impression, and things only got worse. I strongly recommend against staying here.

This hotel has a vintage feel, with corridors that carry a memory of the good old days and guests welcomed in that same style. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the prices are reasonable. The floors can be noisy, and anyone looking for everything new, extra comfy and full of technology may not enjoy it.
