From our room, the view of the castle was a lovely bonus, especially at night. The room was comfortable and the hotel’s well located. Parking was straightforward: the hotel sends a link for online payment, and for 5 CHF a day you can use any spot with white borders. Each time, we found one close by. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful for us, and Brigitte took such good care of us. In all my years of travel, I’ve never met anyone quite so extraordinary.

The room was large and bright, and it was cleaned well, but there was no table and I only had one chair. The hotel is in the city center in an old building, so there’s no elevator. It’s a 10-15 minute walk from the train station, with bars, restaurants, and a supermarket nearby. Breakfast was the usual French-style spread of pastries, butter, jam, and cheese. No fried eggs, they said they aren’t allowed to fry them because there’s no cook in the mornings. And nobody here speaks English.

The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable, unless a loud family happens to be there, which normally shouldn’t be an issue. The food was tasty, though portions were rather small, and prices aren’t cheap. The menu is very limited, which I liked, since that means fresh ingredients and plenty of practice preparing the dishes.

A tidy historic hotel in central Porrentry, with helpful, friendly staff. I’d certainly like to come back.

The salmon trout tatar with tarragon was a great starter, and the bavette, or flank steak, was one of the best dishes I’ve had in a while. It was cooked just right, and the chimichurri seasoning was spot on. We had a lovely evening enjoying the wonderful food and wine. Will come again, merci!
