The view over Lake Ägeri is so picture-perfect, you might almost forget what you paid at the parking meter. And the alphorn music is unmistakably Swiss, with a touch that makes you half expect Heidi to appear. It’s a fun folk flourish alongside the more refined cooking. The food is outstanding, seasoned with the kind of precision that could make a Swiss watch jealous. Anyone who thinks Switzerland is all fondue, expensive watches and yodeling can see that the Swiss can really cook here. Even the so-called fitness plate may leave you full, though a brisk walk around the lake is always an option for those extra calories. A charming mix of great food and cheerful Swiss clichés, enough to make even an alphorn stop and listen.

The setting is lovely and almost fantastic, but cars constantly pass right by the seating area and the traffic noise gets in the way. The food and service are acceptable, though nothing special, and the quality feels aimed more at tourists.

The menu shifts with the fishing seasons, and they serve fresh fish from the lake. It’s simple, tasty food in good-sized portions, with very friendly staff. There’s also a magnificent view outside.

Cosy and warm, with a spectacular view of the alpine landscape. The rooms were very clean, and the fresh food was well made and tasted great. The price felt fair for the outstanding service. I’ll be back next year to celebrate my August 1.
