Call the hotel directly for a room. They’ll almost certainly have one, and booking sites seem to make a killing otherwise. The rooms look to be the same price whatever the date. The place was cheap and clean, with friendly staff and a decent breakfast. It is very basic, though, and has a bit of a hospice feel.

We arrived late, used the code they gave us to get in, and found an envelope with our name and key at reception. Gastehaus Nidelbad is a very good alternative to the hotel across the street for many European travelers. The room was simple but well equipped, and the bed, pillow and blanket were all good. My room didn't have a bathroom, but only some rooms are like that, with a shared shower and toilet in the corridor. Those were clean and in good shape. Breakfast had several kinds of bread, jams, sweets, cereals and a good range of fruit. There’s also a little shop with art, homemade marmalades and forgotten essentials like toothbrushes. A good bed, warm shower and breakfast are what most travelers need, and I had an excellent stay.

The place felt like a retirement home and didn't have a good vibe. It might suit someone looking to stay outside town, but most taxi drivers hadn't heard of it.
