Hotel Zak - Hostel

Don’t book here! We booked through booking.com, but our reservation was cancelled when we arrived. They asked for three times the amount, so we ended up sleeping at the railway station. Prices are made upon request, so keep that in mind in this city.

Room 11 was disappointing. The shower hadn’t been cleaned properly, and I spotted a cockroach inside. The beds were stacked on top of each other, although the description said normal beds, and the red linoleum floor added to the unpleasant feel. During the Schaffhausen show period, my stay at Zak hotel was far from satisfactory. Cristine seemed stressed and disorganized, and mainly communicated in Spanish. She openly complained about earning 2000 francs a month, and her behavior made me think she might have been under the influence of alcohol. The city’s festive mood during the shows may have contributed. Poor hygiene and unprofessional staff conduct marred the stay, and it didn’t meet basic standards of cleanliness or service. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, pleasant stay.

Check-in was very easy, and the studio was close to the train station. The price was good compared with other hotels. But it badly needed cleaning, with huge amounts of dust on several surfaces. One bed was broken, and the decor wasn’t nice, as if they’d put in whatever they had available. The kitchen was missing necessary items, including basic things like an oven glove and mugs.

We were a family of four and had a studio with a nice kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living area. It may sound like what you’d expect from any three-star hotel or better in North America, but I’ve stayed in hotels in Paris and one other hotel in Switzerland, and this place was simply amazing.
