Youth Hostel Schaffhausen

This felt like an old-fashioned hotel. Groups were using the shared bathrooms, showers and toilets, which made me uncomfortable. The floor creaked, and I worried about the noise from doors opening and closing. I was shocked that I had to put on and take off the bedspread myself, something I’d never had to do at a hotel before. Breakfast was standard, and you had to clean up after yourself. There were lots of children around, so it was noisy.

Beautiful place, and I loved my stay. The staff were nice, and there were lots of lovely views and fresh air. It’s within walking distance of the city, and there are games to enjoy if you have time.

It’s about a 15-minute walk to the city center, and it works well for a large group. Everything is simple but decent quality, the people are friendly, and breakfast is basic but perfectly fine.

The building is lovely, though it felt a bit eerie at night, and it’s close to the Rhine Falls. The receptionist was friendly too. The rest of our one-night stay didn’t go so well: our room was tiny, with barely enough space to move, and there wasn’t a bathroom on our floor, so we had to go upstairs. Breakfast wasn’t very good. We arrived around 8 pm and had trouble finding the place tucked among the trees. The door was shut, and we waited a while before anyone at reception noticed us.
