Hotel Rothorn

Our room was amazing, very large, with a big balcony looking across to the Jungfrau and the Neisen. It had a bath, lovely after a hot day walking or travelling, as well as a shower. We didn’t have a car, so we used the local bus service, which was free with the local guest card. We stayed a week in this delightfully charming, typical Swiss hotel on half board. The continental breakfast was more than adequate to keep us going most of the day, though there were no croissants, and the two course evening meals were really good. Some staff speak English, so we managed to get by after the first night, when the waitress on duty didn’t. Drinks were reasonably priced. One tip: book direct. If you’re staying a few days, you might get a discount since the hotel won’t have to pay commission to booking dot com and similar sites. Ask for a room at the front.

The Rothorn Salad and Forester Rosti were really tasty. The staff were warm and friendly, and made my wife and me feel at home. Ms. Angelika Moore treated us especially like one of her own family.

We were on bikes, arrived late on Monday, and didn’t want to go looking for somewhere else. Monday was a rest day at the hotel, so no one was there and you couldn’t check in or out, though you could stay through Monday. By chance, we met someone staying there. She called the owners and arranged a room for us. They were super flexible and nice. We paid in the morning, and the room was great. Thank you for your hospitality!

No one was there to meet us when we arrived, and they had left our keys in a cage. The room was clean and very cozy. Breakfast was basic, with a spectacular view of the mountains.
