Hotel Militärkantine

The food was outstanding, even though the menu is small. It changes daily with the seasons, and dessert means homemade cakes, pastries, and ice cream. Meals are served at big communal tables, so you may find yourself sharing with other people. That's not usually my thing, but the place had a wonderfully warm, welcoming feel. The rooms are very functional and clean, seem well maintained, and have no TV. It's a bit of a strange place, but I'd definitely stay again, especially with the good public transport links into town.

The squeaky floors can make sleeping in difficult once the hotel is fairly occupied. Around 7 to 8AM, you hear them above, around, and below you, unless you're a heavy sleeper. The antique-style rooms looked appealing, but weren't very functional. I was there for business, and the staff didn't seem well prepared for English-speaking guests, though we managed in the end. It was a unique experience, if that's what you're after.

Breakfast was great, and I liked that there was no TV in the room. This quirky place is in a beautiful historic building, with simple but tasteful decor. They even include a funny little soap shaped like the building.

The rooms are spacious and full of sunlight, and the building once housed high-ranking Swiss Army officers. Staff were very nice, and I had a wonderful time there. Don't miss breakfast, which runs until 11am, or the stellar soap made at a traditional manufactory nearby.
