Hotel Bleichibeiz

We turned up on a whim a bit late, after the kitchen had stopped making main dishes. The staff were really friendly, spoke English, and still found a way to feed us. The salad plates were generous, and the warm ciabbata was good. The place has a lovely atmosphere in a former textile factory from Wald’s industrial heyday.

The breakfast was good, and the restaurant serves really nice food. This is a no-frills hotel that feels quite out of place for tourists. Some of the art seems to be for sale. Housekeeping needs to improve: they made the bed but didn’t bother to replenish the shower supplies or shampoo.

Dinner tasted good, though the portions were very small. Breakfast was good too. The hotel used to be a bleaching factory, which makes for a pretty interesting design, while the rooms themselves feel quite rustic.

Eating outside was lovely, with a stream nearby that you can hear. Inside, the old factory machines left as decorations make for a cool setting. They use lots of regional products, which is great, and prices felt fair for the portions. The vegetarian choices included breaded camembert with salad, a vegi burger, and another dish I can’t remember. The burger was okay, not amazing. Two of our seven dishes came out completely wrong or with the wrong side, and it seemed to happen at other tables too. They did offer us something to make up for the mistakes. Fine overall, but not exceptional.
