Hotel Alpenrose Wengen

Getting to and from Wengen station was easy, since the hotel kindly shuttled us and our luggage. The family who run the place bring a real warmth to it, and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. Breakfast and dinner were both worth having. Everything tasted fresh and was well prepared, so meals were something to look forward to. A genuinely welcoming place to stay.

The best part of my three nights was how at home the hotel made me feel. The staff remembered my table preferences, lactose intolerance and the wine I like, and their warm, thoughtful service made dinner feel like a Michelin-star restaurant. The half-board option was just 20 Fr extra and well worth it. Every evening had a different menu, with a new meat dish and a vegetarian choice. The meals were balanced, healthy and full of flavor, and the chef deserves applause. My room had a balcony and a breathtaking valley view, honestly the best I saw in Wengen. The hotel is in a quiet spot, about a five-minute walk from the train station, and they can collect you and help with luggage if you want. Ursula welcomed me warmly, patiently answered my questions and let me check in early. I travel around Switzerland often and have stayed in plenty of hotels, but this was my most beautiful Swiss experience. A local-feeling stay with real Swiss soul and great value.

Dinner was a 10/10, and breakfast was very good. The chef seems like an award winner. The room, bathroom and balcony were all great, and the shuttle to nearby Wengen was useful. Trains were incredibly efficient and on time, with connections to towns and cities across the country. The real showstopper was the view over the Lauterbrunnen mountains and valley. The hotel sits about halfway up the mountainside at roughly 3,000m, with the Swiss Alps, towering cliffs and snow capped peaks all around. Management and staff were extremely helpful and professional. One of the best hotels I’ve had the pleasure of staying in, highly recommended.

Wengen’s quiet charm made it a lovely base for exploring the Grindelwald and Jungfrau region. Some places took a bit longer to reach by train, but we liked the peaceful village much more than busier Grindelwald. At Alpenrose, our room had breathtaking views. The hotel is a little away from the centre, which suited us, and still only a short walk from the station. The bellhop met us when we arrived and helped with our bags when we left. The friendly, attentive staff made us comfortable. Breakfast had lots to choose from, and the four-course dinner for hotel guests at CHF 20 was good value. We’d happily stay at Alpenrose again.
