b_smart hotel Widnau

Check-in is self-service, and there’s parking plus a pleasant outdoor breakfast area. The bed is roomy, but the two mattresses leave a gap. The ventilation and air conditioning weren’t working, and the windows don’t have mosquito screens.

The mattress sinks too much and doesn’t support you well, though the room itself was clean. Also, the restaurant doesn’t serve breakfast on weekends, which wasn’t clear when booking, and there’s nowhere nearby to eat in the morning. Self check-in was fine, but it would help to have a phone on the table. The room numbers can be confusing too. Maybe ground-floor rooms could start with a 0 instead of making the first 1 larger.

I spent 15 nights here. The location is quiet, but it’s in an industrial area, so you really need a car. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was good, and there’s parking right outside the door. The bed was the worst part for me. It’s split into two small sections, and the mattress is so soft that I kept sinking into a valley. I’ve never had to sleep on a mattress like that before, and a good mattress is one of the main things I look for in a hotel. The bathroom setup was also a problem. There’s no door between the shower and toilet, so the whole bathroom gets wet when you shower. Its sliding door to the room doesn’t give privacy, and all the moisture ends up in the room. There’s also a glass wall between the bed and shower, so turning on the light for a nighttime bathroom trip wakes the other person. The air conditioning worked, but the temperature was locked at 23°C.

This is geared toward business stays, with automated check-in and checkout and no staff at the desk. The rooms are compact but practical, and mine was very clean, including the bathroom, even though the TV was broken. There’s a great restaurant on site, with good service at dinner, and it stays open until 11 pm. Breakfast is included and was nice too.
